Benchmark World Tour 2019 – Lithium Ion Battery Investment Event – London
June 24, 2019 @ 8:00 am - 3:00 pm
The Benchmark World Tour is the world’s original and leading annual series of investment seminars on the lithium ion battery to EV supply chain and is in its fifth year.
This year the seminar will focus on a three specific “New Eras” for the industry: rise of the lithium ion battery megafactories, the emergence of exchange traded mechanism and other financial derivatives for lithium, and the rapidly evolving long term battery raw material contracts for the supply chain.
About Benchmark Mineral Intelligence
Benchmark Mineral Intelligence is the world’s leading voice and most trusted provider of independent price assessments for the lithium ion battery and electric vehicle (EV) supply chain.
Benchmark is globally known for setting the lithium industry’s reference price which is relied upon to negotiate contracts between actors in the industry, including lithium extraction operators, to cathode manufacturers, battery cell producers and automotive OEMs.
Benchmark’s Lithium Price Assessments and analysis is also relied upon by the financial community to aid critical investments into the lithium ion supply chain.
The Company also produces regular price assessments on cobalt chemicals and graphite anode and also assesses lithium on battery megafactory capacity build out.
The EV and battery cell supply chain is Benchmark’s sole focus and speciality.
Neil Morris, CEO, Faraday Institution
The Faraday Institution is a critical component in the UK’s push towards electrifcation and energy storage. Faraday brings together scientists and industry partners on research projects to reduce battery cost, weight, and volume; to improve performance and reliability; and to develop whole-life strategies including recycling and reuse.
Neil Morris hails from the oil industry and has extensive experience of the downstream oil business and deep knowledge of refining and high hazard petrochemical operations. He has held executive management positions at a number of large operating sites and was Head of Engineering and Technology for BP’s Global Refining Business, the 4th largest refiner in the world.
His business experience includes developing strategy for BP’s Gas, Renewables, Supply and Trading business, leading multi-million-dollar M&A transactions, establishing a downstream research program including successfully negotiating partnerships with universities and other companies to commercialise a number of new technologies.
Simon Moores, Managing Director, Benchmark Mineral Intelligence
Simon is one of the world’s leading voices in the lithium ion battery to EV supply chain and has specialised in this since 2006.
He founded Benchmark Mineral Intelligence in 2014 to establish price assessment mechanisms for lithium and other key battery raw materials.
He has advised some of the world’s biggest actors in the lithium ion battery industry from cell manufacturers, to electric vehicle producers to mining companies. Through a series of subscription offerings and private consultation, Benchmark’s analysts and independent market data has enabled raw material and battery contract execution, multi-billion-dollars of supply chain investment, and the build out of the 21st Century lithium ion battery supply chain.
Simon has been invited as an expert witness to testify to the US Senate in 2017 and 2019, regularly gives guest lectures at the University of Oxford, and presented at The Royal Institution of Great Britain together with the UK Government’s Chief Scientific Advisor.
Vivas Kumar, Former Battery Supply Chain Lead, Tesla
Vivas’ was responsible for building Tesla’s lithium ion battery supply chain from May 2017 and oversaw the most rapid growth period in the EV battery industry’s history. He has rapidly become a pioneer in the lithium ion battery supply chain as the auto industry enters uncharted EV waters.
At Tesla, Vivas was responsible for sourcing and contracting lithium, cobalt, graphite anode and nickel sulphate, in addition to other battery components as the Tesla Gigafactory 1 in Nevada scaled to become the world’s biggest battery plant.
Vivas’ lunch presentation will explore what the auto OEMs want from supply chain contracts and their battery and raw material suppliers, the hurdles to successful dealmaking, and the mismatch of cultures from mine to EV.
Vivas Kumar is Principal Consultant at Benchmark Mineral Intelligence
Patrick Hummels, Head of Autos, UBS
Patrick Hummel, Head of UBS’ Auto Research Division, is one of the world’s leading analysts in the automotive and mobility industry. Patrick and his team have led the way in analysing the path forward for electric vehicles and the impact on the supply chains. This was exemplified the world famous UBS Evidence Lab Electric Car Tear Down where Patrick’s team deconstructed a Chevrolet Bolt to gain insight into EV profitability.
