DESCRIPTION:This year’s edition of the OECD Forum on Responsible Mineral Supply Chains will take place over three days\, starting off with a Policymakers’ Day on 5 May which will connect aspirations of emerging economies and mining communities to move up the minerals value chain with shoring up resilience in the sector\, spanning trade\, development\, finance\, environment and taxation policy areas.\n\nSessions on 6 and 7 May will address key topics related to responsible business conduct and due diligence of minerals through plenaries\, partner sessions and deep-dives\, including in new\, more interactive formats. Plenary sessions this year will address supply chain transparency\, traceability and inter-operability challenges in addition to the role of commodity traders in minerals due diligence. Other topics at the Forum will include coherence between ESG initiatives\, measuring the impact of due diligence\, regional sessions and environmental due diligence. Sessions on 7 May will focus on artisanal and small-scale mining initiatives to enable responsible sourcing to drive formalisation.\n\nPlease note that this year will feature a more limited number of partner sessions throughout the 3 days in order to elevate priority themes identified by the multi-stakeholder steering group for the OECD responsible minerals implementation programme.

Nuclear power generates around 20 percent of the United States’ electricity – a figure expected to rise as the country expands power generation to meet the growing demand from heavy manufacturing and artificial intelligence. However\, this growth hinges on the United States’ ability to secure a reliable uranium supply.  Once the world’s leading uranium producer from 1953 to the 1980s\, the United States now heavily depends on imports of both raw and enriched uranium from countries like Kazakhstan and Russia. This reliance poses a major challenge to maintaining U.S. nuclear leadership. \nPlease join the CSIS Critical Minerals Security Program for a conversation on the future of uranium security to meet nuclear power demand. Miriam D’Onofrio\, Acting Senior Director for Energy and Investment at the White House National Security Council\, will join Gracelin Baskaran\, Director of the CSIS Critical Minerals Security Program\, to discuss strategies for reducing U.S. dependence on Russian uranium\, revitalizing the domestic uranium industry\, and establishing an international order book for advanced nuclear reactors. \nThis event is made possible by general funding to CSIS and the CSIS Critical Minerals Security Program.
