CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA, February 2, 2025 — The 2025 Mining Indaba conference commenced with the Ministerial Symposium on Sunday, laying a robust foundation of leadership and vision for the future of African mining. The day’s events underscored a collective commitment to sustainable development, regional collaboration, and economic transformation within the continent’s mining sector.

National Address
Following the welcome address, Hon. Gwede Mantashe, South Africa’s Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, delivered the National Address. He highlighted the importance of policy stability and investor confidence in fostering a thriving mining environment. Mantashe remarked, “To attract and retain investment, we must provide a predictable regulatory framework that assures investors of the security of their capital and the potential for fair returns.”
Opening Remarks
