BEAVER CREEK, CO – Total Metals Corp. (TSX-V: TT | OTCQB: TTTMF | FSE: O4N) has appointed veteran mining executive Dr. Andrew J. Ramcharan, PhD, P.Eng, FAusIMM, as President, Chief Executive Officer and a Director, bringing a combination of technical mining, corporate development, project finance and capital-markets experience to the company as it advances its portfolio of gold and critical-mineral assets in Eastern Canada.
The September 22 appointment is particularly notable because Ramcharan’s career has crossed several disciplines that are often separated in the junior mining sector. Over approximately 25 years, he has worked in mine planning and operations, mineral exploration, project evaluation, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and investment banking.
Ramcharan began his career as a Mine Planner Engineer with Dynatec Corporation, where he contributed to the start-up of the McCreedy and Levack mines in northern Ontario. He later moved into corporate development at IAMGOLD Corporation, participating in equity financings exceeding $600 million and project acquisitions totalling more than $800 million, according to Total Metals.
His background subsequently expanded into the institutional side of the mining business through senior roles with Sprott Resource Lending and Resource Capital Funds. Across those positions, Ramcharan evaluated more than 300 mining projects and participated in numerous debt and equity financings. Earlier public disclosures have described the aggregate financing activity associated with his project-finance career as exceeding $1 billion.
That experience could be particularly relevant for a junior resource company because project evaluation at an institutional lender or mining-focused investment fund requires more than geological interpretation. Projects must also be examined through the lenses of capital intensity, metallurgy, permitting, infrastructure, operating assumptions, financing risk and potential economic returns.
Ramcharan has also remained directly involved in exploration. In 2013, he led the team associated with the discovery of an NI 43-101-compliant gold resource exceeding one million ounces in Panama. He later served as Executive Vice President of Corporate Development and Investor Relations at Roscan Gold, where his responsibilities included financing and corporate growth. Roscan reported in 2020 that Ramcharan had helped raise more than $18 million while the company experienced a substantial increase in market valuation.
He subsequently joined Asanko Gold in 2018 as Senior Vice President of Corporate Development and Investor Relations and as a member of the company’s executive committee. At the time, Asanko highlighted his experience across operations, project evaluation, M&A, project finance and investor relations.
His technical credentials are equally extensive. Ramcharan holds graduate-level qualifications in mining engineering and mining and minerals economics, including studies at the Colorado School of Mines and the University of Leoben, and has completed Harvard University continuing-education studies. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario and a Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. He has also lectured at the University of Toronto in mineral resource and reserve estimation.
For Total Metals, the appointment comes as the company develops a portfolio that includes the Electrolode Project in the Red Lake district, positioned between Kinross Gold’s Great Bear Project and First Mining Gold’s Springpole Project. Electrolode is permitted for exploration drilling and contains 10 historic mineralized zones as well as additional untested targets.
The company also holds the High Lake and West Hawk Lake properties along the Manitoba-Ontario border, an option on the Menary gold property in Ontario and the recently added Pick Lake critical-minerals property.
Outgoing President and CEO Tyler Thorburn said he had been recruiting Ramcharan for more than a year, beginning before Total Metals listed on the TSX Venture Exchange, describing the appointment as occurring at a pivotal stage for the company.
For investors following Total Metals, Ramcharan’s appointment introduces a CEO whose resume extends from the mine site through resource definition, corporate transactions and institutional project finance. As Total Metals evaluates and advances multiple exploration assets, that breadth of experience gives the company leadership familiar with both identifying mineral opportunities and assessing what is required to finance and advance them.
